Featured article in a local newspaper on our research on the post-eruptive deformation of Tajogaite volcano
Featured in the newspaper El Día / La Opinión de Tenerife with a news report by Verónica Pavés on the ongoing post‑eruptive deformation of the Tajogaite volcano (La Palma).
The article summarizes our recent research—carried out in collaboration with Thomas Walter (GFZ‑Potsdam, Germany)—on the progressive subsidence, fracturing and structural reorganization of the 2021 cone during the four years following the eruption.
Drawing on InSAR satellite data, drone‑based topography, static camera monitoring, and analog laboratory models, the piece explains how the cone has lost approximately 15 meters of height, how fractures propagated during the final days of the eruption, and why understanding these rapid structural changes is essential for hazard assessment and emergency management.
Added note: In early February, we submitted a manuscript for publication based on these observations and models (Walter et al., in review).
